2010 – Race Recap
The 2010 Founders Lumberjack 100 is in the books. No crazy storms or heat to write about this year. The week leading up to the race included a few thunderstorms and that made for some great soil conditions this year. We tried a few different things for 2010, most notably a change from four 25-mile laps to three 33-mile laps. It presented a number of challenges including 2-way traffic in a couple areas and additional course Marshal’s but over all it worked out great. We have not heard one complaint about the new loop. The new format increased racer completion numbers, up 10% or so over 2009. Many racers commented that the 3 lap race was mentally easier but physically harder due to the use of some killer single track climbs never used in the race before. As always we will continue to tweak and fine tune things every year to make the Lumberjack 100 one of the best 100 mile races in the country.
