2011 – Race Recap

It was another great weekend for the Lumberjack 100! The weather was great, partly cloudy to mostly sunny and a high of 80 degrees. We arrived a day early this year for race set up and it certainly took the stress level down a notch. I received late word from the forest service that my plan to reduce some confusing two-way intersections was approved. The changes included a fire tower hill climb that required a dismount and run up and a bombing fast gravel road downhill for 3/4 of a mile. I think the downhill rewarded the effort to climb to the highest point on the course worth it. But I didn’t have to do it three times! Lucky me.

Local Michigan racer Christian Tanguy took the Mens Open, Amanda Carey set a new women’s course record and another local racer Robert Herriman grabbed the top spot in the Masters category. Singlespeed legend Jerry PFlug continued his domination in the SS world and Carey Lowery finished first in the women’s singlespeed class. The duo of Cara and Andy Applegate dodge trees for 9 hours and 7 minutes to take the top prize in the tandem class.

Congratulations to everyone that finished and thanks to everyone for the continued support and positive comments!

Last but not least I would like to thank the numerous volunteers that put in a weekend of hard work, we could not do it without you.

See you next year on June 16th 2012
