Strava Brings Kudos, Comments and Competition to the 2012 NUE Race Series

Strava sponsors the 2012 National Ultra Endurance Race Series, bringing segment-based challenges to all participants
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – March 8, 2012 Strava, the brand that helps athletes all over the world experience social fitness—sharing, comparing and competing with each other’s personal fitness data via mobile and online apps–has announced its sponsorship of the 2012 NUE Race Series.

Kicking off with the Cohutta 100 MTB Race on April 28, NUE race participants have the opportunity to compete for the fastest time on a featured Strava segment, (a particular section of each race course), for a chance to win a coveted Strava jersey and a 1 year Strava Premium membership. To join any of the Strava segment challenges within the NUE Race Series, simply create a free Strava account at www.strava.com, track your ride with a Garmin or the Strava Cyling app for iPhone or Android, and see where you stack up on the segment leaderboard.

“We are excited to be involved with the 2012 NUE Race Series,” said Michael Horvath, CEO and co-founder of Strava. “These racers are dedicated, gutsy competitors and we aim to layer on an extra level of motivation and friendly competition during the race with a Strava segment challenge.”

In addition to the extra push riders will get from the segment challenges, athletes who follow each other on Strava discover extra motivation from receiving and giving kudos and comments, joining virtual challenges and fighting for a spot on the segment leaderboards in their area.

Free for any athlete to use, Strava also offers a Premium plan that brings features such as leaderboard filters by age, weight and gender groups. Priced at just $6 per-month or $59 per-year, Strava Premium also provides enhanced heart rate, power analysis and deeper physiological reporting on the athlete’s performance.

Wait! We still have openings!

You read that right, it is not sold out! Not sure what happened but since Bike Reg is always so accurate, I suspect I made an error in setting up the cap amount this year. We have 49 spots still available and we will re-open registration next Saturday March 10th at Noon EST until they are gone. Hmmm, 49 spots available and 376 entries sold out in 11 minutes or so. 49 spots should be gone in a minute. Mark your calendars, set your alarm and GO!

I have been told that there are issues with registering on cell phones, I would use your pc for this one.

Trail conditions update

5-31-11 I had the opportunity to ride the 33 mile loop this past holiday weekend. The trail has an above normal amount of springtime sticks and twigs on the trail but theses usually work their way off the trail with increased traffic. Riders should take caution while racing, one misplaced stick can end your race. I would pack a spare derailleur hanger. There are also quite a few sandy patches at the base of some hills due to heavy rain storms this spring.
